In this unit students will:
1) Discuss the importance of development in the first five years of life;
2) Define child survival and the under-five mortality rate — what it means, and how it is calculated;
3) Become aware of the reasons why the under-five mortality rate is an indicator of a country’s well-being;
4) Compare and contrast the under-five mortality rates of various geographic regions;
5) Appreciate the reasons for differences in child survival rates;
6) Read and interpret tables, graphs, pie charts, and maps.
